Expository Composition

This college-level writing course focuses on critical reading, writing, and thinking while also addressing the specific language and cultural needs of non-native speakers of English. Students will review and apply standard conventions of writing that include audience awareness, thesis formation, structure, organization, word choice, grammatical control, and rigorous attention to academic formats, conventions, and expectations. Students will also read and analyze a variety of societal, academic, and literary texts representing culturally diverse perspectives. Writing assignments include expository and argumentative texts that respond to a variety of rhetorical situations and contexts and incorporate college-level research (totaling at least 6,000 words).
