Continued study of the fundamentals of American Sign Language. Emphasizes conversational strategies such as keeping others informed, minimizing interruptions, and turn-taking, as well as grammatical forms such as verb agreement, negation, and role-shifting. Further instruction in specialized fingerspelling and numerical proficiency. Exploration of Deaf culture, emphasizing cultural norms and notable Deaf persons. Outside assignments require practice and assessment with video programs. Field trips required.
