Democratization

This course examines the differences between democratic and non-democratic states, and discusses in comparative perspective the process by which states move from dictatorship to democracy. The role of economics and culture, and the impact of structures such as presidential and parliamentary forms of government on democratization are treated, as are explanations for occasional breakdown of democratic systems
