Examination of serial murder and mass murder in the United States. Topics include serial murder and its relation to race and gender; the media and serial murder; and profiling. Mass murders, in which victims are killed within a few moments or hours, will also be examined. Topics include mass murder's impact on communities; political and religious ideologies; specific institutions victimized by mass murder; and political, community, and law enforcement responses
