Linear normed and Banach spaces, convexity, existence and uniqueness of best approximations, least square approximation and orthogonal polynomials, Chebyshev approximation by polynomials and other related families, splines. Note: This course assumes that students have the equivalent of graduate-level coursework in analysis (e.g. MATH 5070) and linear algebra (e.g. MATH 5718).
