Contemporary health issues are examined using an epidemiological perspective. Recommendations forming the core of public health initiatives in health and physical activity are analyzed regarding their rationale, structure, and function in promoting health and preventing disease. Current national goals and objectives for health and physical activity are covered. Issues in the interpretation of literature, public health recommendations, and principles and strategies for health behaviors are discussed.
