MUS 236

Jazz and Pop Harmony and Form II

The goal of this course is to provide a thorough grounding to the student in the various musical elements in jazz and other popular forms of music during the second half of the 20th century. This will include a knowledge of the uses of harmony, song forms, rhythms, keyboard skills, songwriting and performance. The course is structured along historical lines so a grounding in musicological evolution of popular styles is also provided. This course is a continuation of Jazz and Pop Harmony and Form I, and the successful completion of that course is a prerequisite for enrollment.
