COM 427

News Media Laboratory

The course is taken twice spread over two semesters to fulfill the capstone requirement. The final grade is awarded at the end of the second semester. In the first semester the students are introduced to all aspects of news media production from the stage of newsgathering to putting the final news product out in convergence platform that includes print, online and social media. They learn editing, design, advertising, sales and distribution. Students apply and further develop journalistic skills learned in the prerequisite courses. In the second semester, in addition to above, the students learn editorial, leadership, and management knowledge and skills required in running a newsroom that functions in a media convergence environment. The course requires students to work outside the scheduled class times.
