The Content and Nature of Science for Elementary Teachers

This course uses an inquiry-based approach to integrate relevant life, physical, and earth & space science content and an examination of the nature of science for elementary teachers. The course goal is to provide prospective teachers with a portion of the content knowledge, inquiry skills, and understandings of the nature of science needed to effectively teach inquiry-based science in elementary school. Major themes and topics covered include scientific models, the particulate nature of matter, the cellular nature of living things, scientific problem solving, the nature of science, and the relationship between science and the Christian faith
