Understanding Asia

This interdisciplinary, team-taught course will provide an overview of the broad social changes in the major social institutions in contemporary China, Japan, Korea, India, and Pakistan. The course will place special emphasis on modern East Asia and South Asias linkages with their traditional pasts. The goal of the course is to give a broad introduction to social conditions in this part of the world, and to provide a basis for further study in more advanced and specialized classes in Asian studies
