Social Work Practice with Immigrants and Refugees

This course examines the profession of social works role in advocating for, enacting and implementing social policies and programs that benefit immigrants and refugees; social practices that encompass the diversity of immigration experiences, current international refugee situations, theories of social adjustment and acculturation; the cross-cultural skills needed to understand complex family dynamics of foreign-born populations; inter-and intra-ethnic tensions; cultural competence in social work interventions; and specific issues of oppression and social justice that face refugees and immigrants
