Christianity and Western Culture I

This course explores the relationship and development of Christianity and Western culture from the ancient world through the early and high medieval periods. The course examines the intellectual, social, and cultural history of the West as it relates to Christian life and thought. Special attention is given to the historical setting for the origins and growth of the Christian church. The course demonstrates the mutually formative interaction that took place between the church and society from Greco-Roman times to feudal Europe and the emergence of Christendom.
