Political Economy of the Middle East and North Africa

This course examines the challenges, obstacles, and prospects for economic development in the Middle East and North Africa. It surveys theories of economic development and applies them to individual states in the region. Specifically, the course addresses questions about the role of natural resources in development. It examines the impact of population growth and the consequences of regional conflict on development. The course explores development outcomes in an era of globalization.
