Arab-Israeli conflict and relationships among the Arab states; role of the major powers in the Middle East; consideration of ideas and political manifestations of nationalism, the impact of imperialism, aspects of military strategy, problems of development, and the politics of oil; role of ethnicity, tribalism, culture and religion in explaining politics in Middle Eastern states.
