Harmony, Form and Techniques in Jazz and Popular Music I

The goal of this course is to provide a thorough grounding to the student in the various musical elements in jazz and other popular forms of music during the first half of the 20th century. This will include a knowledge of the uses of harmony, song forms rhythms, keyboard skills, songwriting and performance. The course is structured along historical lines so a grounding in the musicological evolution of popular styles is also provided.
