Media and Crime

This course will explore the relationship between media and crime as well as theories that explain this association. Students will analyze various forms of media through the use of content analysis. The overall focus will be the social construction of perceptions of criminals, victims, and the criminal justice system, as well as how the media are used as a tool of social control to impact criminal justice policy.
